Kylie sat with her head propped in her hands, a glazed look in her eyes as she stared blankly at the wall of the cabin. Her slim legs swung back and forth in perfect time, thumping the suitcase in front of her softly each time she pushed them forward. Finally, the suitcase toppled onto its side, disturbing the hypnotic quality of the repitition. With a sigh, Kylie glanced at the clock.
12:40.
Lunch had been in progress for 10 minutes, most people were still content to socialize and eat together for at least 30, if not more. Kylie, however, hadn't been that hungry. She'd finished in five minutes flat, then sat around uncomfortably for another two. By that time she realized it was decidedly awkward to sit in silence at a lunch table when you weren't even eating, and so had slipped out of the room as quiety and unobtrusively as possible.
She'd taken her time walking back to her cabin, the heat made her sluggish and slow. She didn't really like heat that much, and it was a humid sort of heat. She despised humidity. She had reflected on her hatred of the heat at great length as she sat silently on her bed for another few minutes. Now, she decided she would have to get up and do something. Wasting time was unforgivably stupid, in her opinion. With a sigh, she stood up and slid her feet into a pair of plain white flip flops. Tugging at the ends of her simple, red tanktop she started for the door. The shirt was more revealing than anything she usually wore, but she was awfully hot. Looking down at her long, skinny blue jeans she cursed herself for not packing more shorts...not that she really had any. But still. Leaving the cabin behind her, she set off for Leens Lake. It would be quiet there, and there were a few shady trees. The water was usually nice too, and everyone else was at lunch so she should have the place all to herself.
She was right. It was nice and cool (or at least cooler) by the side of the lake. She'd chosen a nice, big rock to sit on, convienently placed underneath a leafy green tree. She'd left her flip-flops beside the rock as she clambered up, situating herself on the top of the rock. She dangled her legs over the side, the tips of her toes brushing the surface of the water (yes, she was rather short) and smiled, happy for the peacefulness of the scene.
She sat for a few moments before she realized she really hadn't thought it through all that well. For instance, she ought to have brought a bathing suit. With a mental shrug, she figured she wouldn't go jumping in or anything, so it would be okay. She reached up behind her head, tugging her wavy brown hair from its ponytail and shaking it out to fall around her shoulders in dark waves.
She watched the water for a few more seconds before realizing the inevitable. She was bored. She should have invited Emma or Tessa to come with her, but they had both been deeply engrossed in conversation. She hadn't seen Oliver in the few minutes she was in the cafeteria area, but she would assume he was deep in conversation as well, probably with one of his many admirers. Trying not to think about that (she caused herself enough trouble without dwelling on things) she reached over to grab a few stones. With a flick of her wrist, she sent one skipping across the lake. One...two...three...four....five, and then it sank. With a grin, she sent another one hurtling across the surface of the water. Maybe someone would show up, and she could get up the nerve to talk to them. Maybe.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever
So, he was eating. Or was, to be more precise. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy eating, but you can only eat so much. Besides, he had nothing to do. Eyes trailed once more to the couple of people surrounding him, whose names he had already forgotten. They were in some conversation which he was apparently supposed to be listening to, but he had long since zoned out, making sure to throw in the right facial expressions at opportune moments. It wasn't like he hated people or anything, but they were talking about...well, he wasn't really sure, he thought he caught the word grass though. And to say the least, he didn't find it important to talk about grass.
Biting at his lower lip, he looked once more at the campers, before quietly standing up, hoping to sneak quietly out of the room or something. Like that would work. All eyes trained on him and he shrugged, mumbling out a quick, "uh...later" Before turning around and walking out of the room. Feet collided with the grass as he rolled his eyes, not really knowing what to do, after all, he had no idea where any of his friends were. Tilting his head to the right, he tried to think of where to go, he could after all, go back to his cabin and...well, that was the question, e had absolutely nothing to do.
Sighing out softly, he spotted the patch of bright blue weaving among the tree, the lake. Of course, it wasn't the source of all entertainment, but maybe he could do...something there. He wasn't sure what exactly, but started walking towards that direction anyway. Dodging low branches and stepping over broken twigs, he made his way towards to lake, fingers brushing against the bark of the trees as he moved, finally breaking into the clearing. He walked towards the lake, still undecided about what to do, and stood there thinking.
And then he spotted a pair of flip flops, eyes narrowed as he wondered vaguely if someone had left them there, but then his vision strayed and was re-directed at a brown haired girl perched on top of a large rock. A smile broke out on his face as he recognized Kylie there. Shifting so he was in range of the shoe, he picked it up turning it in his hands, before chucking it behind a log. It would serve to amuse him later when she would think a wild animal took off with it...or something.
Jumping on top of the rock in a haphazard motion, he swayed precariously, before dropping down behind the girl hand shot out and covered her eyes, trying to disguise his voice he pitched out a "guess who," and sounded like a girl, who secretly wanted to be a guy. Or something along those lines. Half his mouth pulled up in a lopsided grin as he felt her lashes flutter against his hands, trying not to laugh, because then it would be obvious who he was. Not like she already didn't know.
Eyes strayed to a small oval rock that was held in her hand, fingers left her face, moving down to snatch the rock from her palm, holding it up to peer at it. Lips moved as he formed words, "Watcha doin'?" he asked, nonchalantly, still watching the rock as he turned it over in his hands. Looking up at her, he moved to place the rock on top of her head, leaving in resting there like some kind of second rate hat. Leaning forward, he crawled on hands and knees until he was perched on the ledge of the rock next to her, knees drawing forward to lean his elbows against as he watched the wind shuffle about the water and create oddly rippled patterns about the water.
}}okay, this totally sucks. Sorreh. [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Kylie heard the faint sounds of movement in the forest behind her, and her spine stiffened. Whereas some might figure she was afraid of what horrible ‘beasts’ were wandering the woods, that was entirely not the case. In actuality, Kylie was simply afraid of the possibility that she might be called upon to make small talk. Imagine the words imbued with the most distinct hatred possible, if you will, and you have Kylie’s exact feelings on the matter. Small talk, or any kind of talking with people you don’t know, is entirely horrible, in her own humble opinion.
And so she sat, pretending not to notice the rustling of the leaves and a slight thump as something landed on the forest floor. Thinking nothing of it (though she would later, when she went looking for her flipflop), she ran one hand through her hair, twining the strands nervously. Suddenly, a pair of hands slipped over her eyes. She was about to let out a startled shriek, when a slightly familiar voice spoke, and she relaxed.
She put one hand up, wrapping small fingers around the wrist of the hand across her eyes, and tugged it down gently. Turning in her seat, she grinned up at a decidedly familiar face. “Hullo Oliver.” She said by way of a reply, trying in vain not to notice how incredibly adorable that lopsided grin of his was. She returned it with a small smile of her own,as she considered the possibility of the day becoming far more interesting. “Done with lunch already?”
He snatched the rock from her palm, examining it carefully for reasons only he knew-if there were any at all. A bemused smile settled across her face as she took in his casual question, angling her body so she was facing him. Oliver was one of her few really good friends, and therefore one of the few she actually looked at when she spoke. Usually, eye contact was avoided. She giggled slightly, almost silently, as he placed the rock delicately on the top of her head. One small , slightly tanned hand reached up to form a sort of umbrella over the rock, keeping it from falling off as she turned her head to look at the lake again. Scooping the rock off of her head, she brought her arm down and sent the rock sailing with a flick of her wrist. Watching it skip across the water, she shrugged. “I’m doing…that.” The rock stopped after two skips, then plunged into the blue depths. She pouted slightly, sighing a little indignantly. She’d been doing much better before Oliver had shown up, but of course, he’d gone and shaken her up. Not just by surprising her either, he could make her nervous just by existing.
She tried not to notice the increase in her heart rate as he moved to sit beside her. She really should not be so silly. He was her friend. That, unfortunately, was it. Nothing more. And she was happy, really she was.It was simply a case of ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’. She loved being his friend, but she couldn’t deny that she envied the girls he crushed on. Almost subconciously, her posture reoriented to shift her just the tiniest bit closer to him, though it was hardly noticeable. A gust of wind whipped her hair into her face, and she tugged it back, watching as it danced across the water, forming strange waves and patterns. Silence stretched between them, a comfortable silence. After a few moments, she turned to look back at him, an inquisitive tilt to her head. “What’ve you been up too lately?”

Duray sat at the lunch table among the rest of the Sequoia girls. Big surprise. Nothing special about that. She was still definitely pissed that she was here and not somewhere like Cabo, or San Lucas, or France, or something. God she could kill her parents. They wanted her to be around her peers. What a crock of shit. They wanted her gone and superized by capable people this summer and not just herself and a few friends and their older siblings. Correction they wanted her gone so they didn't have to deal with the one child they actually claimed. Speaking of which she needed to check her e-mail to see brother was doing.
She looked around the table. The usual chit chat was going on. He had done what, said what, screwed who, yadda yadda yadda. She was so over the lunch room conversation. She was definitely through eating. She'd eaten most of her food, though not all of it. The remains still sat on her plate untouched by her fork and they'd probably stay like that.
She stood up and grabbed her tray, throwing away what needed to be thrown away and the placing the tray in its rightful spot. She heard one of her cabinmates ask her where she was headed but she ignored her and kept walking until she was out of the mess hall.
After leaving the mess hall she headed over to the sequoia cabin. She went in and quickly pulled her portable laptop from out of its hiding space and logged onto her account. Just as she'd suspected, she had an e-mail from her older brother Malcom, who was living in New York. She found herself smiling while reading the e-mail and then smiling even more as she replied, along with a few eye rolls of course. Once she was finished updating her brother on what was currently going on in her life she pressed the send button and logged off her computer. She put it back into its previous hiding space and then stood up with a sigh. There wasn't much for her to do in the cabin so she'd ahve to figure out what she could do outside of it.
After a few minutes of diliberation she decided to walked down by the lake. It would be relatively cool down there and she always thought of water as relaxing anyway. Duray walked over to where her clothes were kept and pulled out her D&G bikini. It had white, orange, and yellow stripes. She wasn't going to get in most likely but she looked damn good in her bikini top. To match, she put on her yellow booty shorts, and a pair of yellow filp flops. She grabbed her D&G sunglasses and slipped them over her eyes as well as grabbing her bag and iPOD. She stuck the earphones in her ear, turned to Pink's Who Knew, and then headed towards the lake.
On the way she hummed the lyrics to the song. The closer she got the more clear two figures became. When she was close up she realized it was a boy and a girl. She'd seen them both around the camp. The boy was definitely cute and in the mammoth cabin. The girl....Duray was sure she was in the Yosemite cabin. Yeah she was definitely sure seeing as how she wasn't in Sequoia with Duray and Yosemite was the only other girl cabin. Either way, Duray decided not to sit directly next to them but well within sight of them. She laid out the towel she had put in her bag and then laid down on it face up, for the moment in total content.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever
As she spoke he felt a sense of relief, mainly for finding someone who he could completely and totally be himself with. Without having to act amazingly nice twenty four seven. "mhhmm," He mumbled out, resting his chin on the edge of his knee as he spoke. As he placed the circle stone on top of the brunettes head, he heard her giggle. He couldn't help it, he chuckled too, a corner of his mouth pulling up and creating a dimple to impede into his cheek.
As he watched her throw the rock towards the lake, he made a grim line out of his mouth before saying, "your throwing rocks at the lake, well, as much as I agree that water is disgusting, I don't think you can hurt it by throwing a blunt object at it." He nodded his head in an apparent justifiable notion before smiling once more, murmuring out, "geez...you suck at that." All in good humor, of course. Grabbing another rock from where he sat, he placed it into her hand, "If you ever made more than two, you were really lucky. Your not flicking your wrist, it's like this, see?" He asked, fingers holding her wrist as she showed her the appropriate way to fling a rock.
He heard her question, tipping his head to the side as he let the wind raggedly whip strands of hair through his eyes. He seemed to think before saying, "nothing much, really. I've been extremely bored though." And as if to prove this point he deliberated by yawning loudly. And when he looked back up at Kylie he saw her hair being mixed into her features. Which made him laugh, so he was now half gagging from laughing and yawning. "Kylie, you look...furry." He pointed out, grinning up at her and laughing again.
And then he heard footsteps near him, gaze shifted sideways as he saw a girl approaching. Who may have been sent to this Earth as his own personal demon. Okay, so that was stretching the truth. But to say the least, he really did like her. Biting at his lip, he swiveled around. Watching out of the corner of his eye as she proceeded to lay out her towel. He groaned in frustration, gaze turning back to Kylie as he whispered out, "What are the odds she showed up here?" Of course, he hadn't divulged this secret with her, but by his actions it was pretty obvious to tell he liked her.
Hands moved to brush against the surface of the large rock. Turning back, he cocked his head to the right as he watched her - before apparently coming to a closure. Hands moved to shove him from the hard substance where he sat as feet landed hard against the ground, sending scant amounts of pebbles flying into the water. "Okay, I'm gonna go say hi, be my backup?" He asked her, they both used to pretend they worked for the military when they were at camp, and he brought back a phrase for a nostalgic memory trip. Or just because he really didn't want her to be mad at him. Even if she was too shy to tell him.
}}oh, wow. This is absolutely horrible. I'm sorry.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

She put on a hurt, kicked-puppy expression at his ‘rebuke’, sniffing slightly in a sort of pitiful way. “I couldn’t help it. The water was just so…ucky.” She said, trialing off as a smile reappeared on her face. She couldn’t stay serious for too long, especially not around Oliver. He was so lighthearted (most of the time…) that it was almost infectious. She ducked her head as he murmered, crossing her arms indignantly across her chest. “You’re so mean, Oliver. Gosh. I was doing fine earlier, you’re just bad..” She trailed off a little as he took her wrist.”…luck...” She knew she was the only one that felt anything, but she couldn’t ignore what she did feel. His hands were warm, really warm, and kind of soft too. He demonstrated the proper way to throw the rock, and she nodded even though she hadn’t really heard a word he said past the first part. ”And I totally made it to like, seven earlier. And I’ve got farther than that before.” she stuck her tounge out and watched the rock they’d thrown skip across the water.
It went eleven skips out into the water before sinking. Scowling, she crossed her arms again, her lips twisting into a frown that was more for show than anything else. Just hanging out with Oliver was enough to keep her content. He was her best friend, after all. She turned slightly to look at him again as he responded to her question, and grinned. ”Its been awfully boring lately, yeah. But...its been good to see people again.” she bit her lip slightly, thinking about that last statement. It was true, in a sense. Unfortunately, there weren’t that many people for her to reunite with; she was too shy to make too many friends. Last year had been her first year, too, and she had been bitter about her father shipping her off to camp to get her out from under his feet; especially when all her siblings got sent to France. She’d as good as raised the younger children (all four) and felt responsible for them, being separated for so long was a welcome relief, but still made her nervous. So much could happen to them while she wasn’t there… She shook the thoughts away at his next comment, laughing along with Oliver as she fought her hair back from her face. ”Gee thanks. I should get it checked out. It might be a serious medical condition. Don’t mock me, my life could be in jeopardy.” she spoke earnestly, but she couldn’t keep the grin off her face, which pretty much ruined her acting. Oh well, she had no future in show biz anyway.
She heard the sound of footsteps, turning to look as the familiar apprehension raced through her veins. An inward groan met the sight of the newcomer; Duray. Something about the girl put Kylie on edge…even more so than usual. She was just about to turn and find some excuse to leave, when she caught sight of the look on Oliver’s face. She could have sworn her heart stopped dead for a few seconds, as he made it painfully obvious that he liked her. Of course. Of course he liked her. She was pretty and probably really fantastic. Why wouldn’t he like her? She would never admit to herself, even though she essentially already had, that it was her own wish to be the one that he was looking at like that that made her heart suddenly return, feeling like it had been filled with lead. It hung heavily in her chest, she could almost feel it weighing her down. ”I dunno, I guess you’re just lucky.” she replied, smiling discreetly and hoping it was convincing. He deserved to be happy. Right?
She watched as Oliver fidgeted, seemingly debating something within himself. She waited patiently for him to speak, and when he did she grinned and nodded, though her heart (obviously) wasn’t in it. ”Yeah. Backup.” she said, nodding again. It was cute, that he was trying to bring up their old games, pretending to be military people. But..at the same time, the word seemed to have a sense of finality to it. Backup. She was the backup. The friend. That was it. ”Go for it!” she added, blinking a few times to dispel the slightly depressing thoughts. She was prone to becoming easily upset or depressed, and she was so not going there now. Not at all. Oliver needed backup, so she would be backup. She smiled encouragingly, and braced herself for whatever scene was about to unfold.

While laid out, Duray kept her sunglasses over her eyes. In the position she was in, it was apparent that the sun would do nothing but beat down on her, as if it was intentionally trying to blind her. Stupid sun. Only thing it was good for was tanning and she rarely did that, as she didn't really need to. Speaking of sun, as if she'd suddenly remembered something she quickly sat up and searched through her bag. She finally found what she had been looking for: her sunblock. There was no way she was going to risk sun cancer for a little rest and relaxation. Plus if she came back with an overly serious tan, Marciella would murder her. Not that she wouldn't mind seeing her mother have a cow, but still.
She uncapped the bottle of sunscreen and poured some in her hand before rubbing her manicured hands together and then putting the cream on her legs, which was the first area she started with. After making sure that the cream was no longer visible on the surface of her legs, she moved to her arms, the part of her back she could reach, and any other places that were exposed to the UV rays of the sun.
As she lotioned up, she gaze out onto the lake. She saw stoned skipping from the direction that Kylie, that was her name, and Oliver were sitting. It was obvious that the stone had come from them and whatever they were doing. She watched Oliver more intensely than anything. When she was finished applying the sun screen, she put the cap back onto the bottle and laid back down.
After closing her eyes for a few brief seconds, she opened them again and looked back over at Oliver and Kylie. They were both apparently looking at her, holding some conversation she could only guess related to her. That was obvious. Duray watched as Oliver suddenly stood up. It would look as if he were going to come over and talk to her, which Duray had no objections to. However, if he brought Kylie over with him, she may have to control herself from lashing out at her in any possible way.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever

At her expression he couldn't help but laugh, in which he nodded his head gravely in agreement. "Yes, the water is unbelievably ucky, but throwing rocks at it will only hurt the fish." He commented, even though the fish probably had enough common sense to swim away from a large chunk of rock. As she spoke up again by her ability of rock throwing, he chuckled at her, watching her trail of, from surprise or annoyance he was guessing, when he grabbed her wrist. "sure, sure." He commented, before watching the rock get flung into the lake.
As she spoke of her skipping abilities, he nodded, trying to keep a smile off his face, but failing. Pointing to the rock as it made its eleventh skip he said, "I think you have a new record, though I am a major part in said record, I may add." Sticking his tongue out back at her, he laughed, watching her with a bemused expression littering his face. As she spoke again he nodded with a grin, "Yeah, I totally missed you Kylie." He said, eyes reading seriously. Which was a feat in itself, he nearly never communicated in any way shape or form with his eyes.
As she laughed, he joined her, snorting out a, "I don't think the camp nurse will know how to treat that." Before yanking off a rubber band from his wrist, hands moved forward and wrapped themselves around her hair, which he collected at the top and tied around with the rubber band. "Okay, you may have to cut that out of your hair later, but I think I cured your life jeopardizing problem." He smiled at her, leaning back and saying, "I think it really suits you." before cracking up. He hair was piled on top of her head, and splayed out in multiple directions. To say the least, he wasn't great with anything having to do with styling hair.
As she spoke he raised his eyebrow before saying, "I thought I was bad luck." Grinning before he noticed her expression, to which he patted her on the head, "don't worry, we'll find someone to hook you up with." Of course, it wasn't that he was dumb, he just never in a million years would have thought Kylie, Kylie, the girl who was his best friend and did all sorts of odd things with him would like him. It didn't seem realistic and therefore never let the thought cloud his mind.
As she spoke again, he ducked his head, looking up at her almost bashfully from under his lashes and hair, "thanks Kylie." An he would have given her a hug right then and there, if Duray was within ten feet of him. He obviously didn't want to do anything to that effect in front of her. Standing from his current leaning spot, he tilted his head not sure if Kylie was coming with him or not, biting his lip, he turned. If she wanted to come, she obviously could. But he didn't want to push her into anything. She had a thing about meeting new people.
Walking over to the girl donning the towel, he looked down at her, studying with blue green eyes, before coming within range and sitting on a stump next to her. Giving a small smile he spoke out a soft, "Hey," He knew her, well, obviously. He saw her around camp, and would have talked to her. Except for the fact that he never got the chance to. "I'm Ollie." He spoke out again, there were a lot of kids at the camp, he would never know if she knew his name or not.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

She adopted a pensive look, peering into the water thoughtfully. ”You’re right. I certainly don’t want to harm any innocent fishies.” she nodded once, decisively, as though that simple statement solved all the problems in the world. The rock slid across the water as they watched, and he fought valiantly to keep a grin from his face, to no avail. A wry smile twisted her lips and she rolled her eyes as he spoke of the new record. ”You’re mental. That was all me, Ollie, you so had nothing to do with that.” she flipped her hair over her shoulder and rolled her eyes again, the picture of innocence. Or something like that…
She smiled widely at his words, the sort of smile that kind of lit up her face. ”Aw, thanks Ollie.” She said, in a joking tone. The sincerity in her eyes contradicted the joke as she spoke again. ”I missed you too.” Seeing the serious look in his eyes was comforting. She had been afraid he would forget her over the summer, even though they had kept in touch to a certain extent. Emails and the occasional phone call could only do so much, however. The unusual display of sincerity in his eyes reassured her, however, and she smiled brightly at him.
She found her heartrate accelerating to dangerous speeds as he pulled her hair into a ‘ponytail’ on the top of her head. Catching sight of her reflection in the water, her eyes widened in mock horror. “Oliver.” she said, turning to regard him with the most sincere expression she could muster. ”This is absolutely hideous. I’m sorry, but I think I’d rather face a lifetime of furriness.” She gently reached up, attempting to untangle the rubber band. It was a slow, difficult process that left her stopping every couple of seconds to wince and rub at a sore spot as the rubber band yanked at her hair.
She had been about to respond to his bad luck comment, when he patted her in what must have been a comforting manner. His words very nearly stopped her heart. Good Lord, was he really that dense? Had he honestly noticed, only to assume it was because she wanted any guy? Oliver was a lovely person, she would vouch for that, but damn that was just ridiculous. He really never would have any idea what she was thinking, or what she was going through.
The next look he gave her made up for the dull ache that radiated from her heart. She looked away, down at the water. She didn’t trust herself to look at those gorgeous blue-green eyes for too long. She knew she would give herself away if she did. But damn, he was just so cute. ”Any time.” she replied, in the best non-chalant tone she could muster. Oliver hesitated, biting at his lip before walking over to Duray. Kylie slid slowly off the rock, planting her feet on the bare, packed dirt of the surrounding area. She caught sight of one of her flip flops nearby, but not the other. Vaguely puzzled, she decided to look for it later and go barefoot for the time being. That having been decided, she patted slowly after Ollie, stopping a few feet behind him. As he sat down, Kylie targeted a tree slightly behind the two of them and to the side. She flashed a smile at the top of Duray’s head, then shifted her eyes to stare at the ground in front of the girl. “Hi Duray,” she said softly. She had met the girl some time before, but they weren’t exactly friends. At all. She smiled again, halfheartedly, and turned to head for the tree. She reached it quickly, leaning against it and training her eyes on the ground. The dark brown orbs locked on to an ant, scurrying across a leaf and followed its progress. She was here for moral support, and would probably slip into the background pretty quickly, just the way she liked it. Or at least, the way she usually liked it. Since she’d met Oliver, she’d been wondering if –around him at least- she’d like to be the sort of girl people noticed right away.

Duray had been laying there for quite awhile. By now Pink had left her ears and now Rockstar by Nickelback was blasting through her ears. She hummed along to the words slipping in a singing voice a few times. She loved this song. It seriously struck her for a reason she couldn't yet identify. Everytime she watched the music video she seemed to love it a bit more.
Every now and then she would gaze over in the direction of Oliver and Kylie. What the hell was taking him so long to come over and talk to her? She had no clue at all but didn't get antsy because she knew it was only a matter of time. Until that time came she'd just have to wait wouldn't she.
She watched as he finally began making his way over to her. She quickly looked away when he got a bit closer and pretended not to see him when he sat down on the stump. She could tell he was studying her with his stunning blue-green eyes. They made him even more attractive. They kind of played in with the whole good boy thing he had going on. Duray loved good boys just as much she loved bad boys. Bad boys were already corrupted and were the ones that catered to your party and dangerous side. Good boy were the ones you got to corrupt. They were the ones that catered to you because they felt they should.
When he introduced himself, Duray sat up slowly and removed her sunglasses from over her eyes to the top of her head so that her light green eyes were visible. "Duray. I know who you are. I've seen you around camp a few times. You're in the Mammoth cabin right?" she said smiling at him.
She noticed that Kylie was making her way over. She wasn't too fond of the girl and it was obvious to anyone who wasn't blind that she was crushing on Oliver. Too bad he had his intriguing eyes set on Duray. When Kylie spoke, Duray opted not to be rude, especially in front of Oliver. "Hi Kylie," she said and she simply left it at that before turning to face Oliver again. "So what brings you over here Ollie?"

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever
"Of course not." He said with a smile, "Of course, they may be suicidal, in which case, feel free to chuck rocks into the lake." This made little to no sense at all, but he didn't really care if he sounded like a freak in front of Kylie, she wouldn't care. He watched the rock carefully slip into the waters folds before he heard her speaking huffily.Laughing loudly he said, "Of course it wasn't, after all, you showed me how amazingly well you were doing before." Jabbing her in the side lightly with his elbow as he spoke, he continued to laugh at her complete stubbornness.
As she spoke his sentiments back, he smiled, leaning his head against hers briefly, though strands of hair flew into his face, and he pretended to splutter. "Ew, Kylie, your hair tastes horrible." He told her, casting off a mischievous grin as he spoke. He continued to pretend to gag before laughing once more. He seemed to laugh more around her than a lot of other people. And he wasn't even drunk.
When she spoke of his makeshift hairstyle he gave her, he mocked a pout, "aww, I'm sorry, I was just trying to help." Sticking out his lower lip in an attempt to look like an abandoned puppy. Your ruining my self esteem, I wanted to be a hairdresser, you just brutally killed my dream." He informed her, holding off the snickering that was trying to come out of his chest. As her hands reached up to take out the rubber band, he watched her struggle, fighting to keep the smile from showing on his face.
"Uhh, sorry about that." He told her as she finally ripped the thing free from her hair. He looked over at Duray silently, watching her quietly from the corner of his eye, and then Kylie was speaking and his head swiveled around to face her. A broad grin settled across his features, hand moving over to grip hers quickly before squeezing once then letting go, "thanks," He told her quickly, before making his way towards the blond girl.
As he settled on the log and spoke to the girl sitting across from him, he smiled as she spoke, "Yeah," He told her, wondering why she had decided to remember that. Unless it was simply a fact. After all, some people just had good memories, she could have seen him walking into the cabin. And by now, he was way over thinking the situation. Shaking his head lightly, he turned back to look at her as she spoke once more.
"Well, you seemed a bit lonely." He said tilting his head to the side as he spoke. Teeth moved to bite at his bottom lip, a habit he couldn't break, even though he had tried several times. "Anything interesting happen at camp so far?" He ventured the question, mainly because he couldn't really think of anything else to say and decided to fill in the silence. In the back of his mind he hoped Kylie was bored out of her mind or angry or something. He would really hate himself for making her sad, and he didn't really know why, until he actually thought about it and realized she was his best friend. Of course he would be mad at himself if her made her sad, it was amazingly obvious.

She chuckled lightly at his nonsensical fish comments, deciding to let the subject go. It would only get twisted and deluded from here on out, who knows how far or how much. He laughed loudly as she sulked stubbornly, refusing to give in. She couldn’t help it, she had a stubborn streak that manifested itself at odd times. He nudged her and she exaggerated her fall to the side before elbowing him back. ”You’re a jerk.” she informed him in a stern tone.
He leaned over, touching his head to hers and she felt her heart rate speed up to an alarmingly fast rate. She hoped he wouldn’t notice, and was saved from potential embarresment by a gust of wind. Laughing and elbowing him again, she crossed her arms sullenly. ”Then don’t eat it stupid.Besides, its infected with a horrible disease. Now you’re gonna die. Way to go.” She grinned slightly, amazed as always at her willingness to talk around him. He was probably the only one she could really truly be herself around, most of the time she didn’t even realize she could string together more than three sentences. He pouted and she smiled in a consoling way, though it bordered on patronizing. She patted him softly on the head and laughed slightly as she spoke. ”Don’t worry Ollie, dear. You can always be a deep sea fisherman.” she chuckled a little, dropping her hand again and stuffing the newly extracted rubber band into her pocket. That had hurt, the whole removing it thing.
He squeezed her hand and she fought to keep a blush off her cheeks. She squeezed it back and shrugged nonchalantly. ”No problem.” she replied as she watched him make his way over to That Girl. She positioned herself in hearing distance, but politely far away, readying herself for the inevitable let down of Oliver asking out ANOTHER girl that was not her. She settled in to wait, the bark of the tree scratching at her bare shoulders. She wished herself far far away from the clearing, and began to formulate plans for escape. She didn’t want to be around when he asked her out, or they started flirting. Either way, she wanted to be far, far away.
Oliver asked the girl a question, obviously he was completely smitten with her. Did he even remember Kylie was there? Probably not, she thought bitterly. After all, why think of someone as plain and quiet as she was, when there was someone so incredibly outgoing and pretty lying on a towel in skimpy clothes and designer sunglasses? There was no point to it, she was a fade in the background sort of girl, and girls like Duray were way more fun to be around. Who wanted a girlfriend that was too afraid to talk to people? No one, that’s who. She made a mental promise to try to be more outgoing. She had to do SOMETHING, or she was going to end up alone and miserable forever. Okay. So maybe that was a bit too melodramatic. But still, the fact of the matter remained: she was pretty pathetically timid.

Duray had watched the two interact with each other from a distance. Obviously they were good friends. Obviously there was no way around it. If Oliver did make his way over to where she lay then she would have to deal with Kylie. If she and Oliver began talking in a more than friend type of way then she would have to deal with Kylie even more so. Oh well, it was a small price to pay when it came with dating Oliver. She needed something to occupy her time and he just might be that something she was looking for.
After he made his way over and introductions were said she watched his body language. He was obviously nervous with excitement. On top of that she could somewhat see by the look on his face that he was trying to figure something out, possibly concerning here. Most likely concerning her. When he began speaking she gave him a flirtatious smile. "Well I was a bit lonely actually. Glad to see you were enough of a gentleman to come and keep little old me company. Not many of those types of boys left in the world anymore." She knew she had to make him feel special. It was key when flirting with someone.
"Nothing too exciting yet. Hopefully something, or someone, will come along and change that," she said answering his next question. She was dropping somewhat subtle hints to him and hopefully he would pick up on that fact soon.
She looked over at Kylie, or rather watched her from the corner of her eye. It appeared that Kylie was intimidated by her, or maybe that's what Duray just believed. Hell, if Duray was Kylie she'd probably be intimidated by herself. Wait is that considered being conceited? Either way it didn't matter because it was apparent that she was trying hard not to focus on their conversation. Maybe if Duray was lucky, Kylie would just leave. No scratch that. If Kylie did like Oliver, then she'd want to leave for her own protection. It was apparent that Oliver didn't see her that way and that he saw Duray that way. God, how Duray would hate to b e Kylie right now. How that poor girl must feel at that exact moment. Kylie was the only one that knew. The only thing that Duray knew was that she was going to hook and reel in Oliver Flynn and there were no ifs, ands, or buts about it .

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever
He watched her fall with a laugh, before he was elbowed back and called a jerk, making a face he whined out, "aww, but that's why you love me." Laughing silently as he watched her sulking. As her hair stuck to his mouth and he spluttered about, he laughed at her comment, "Kinda hard if it flies into my mouth, you should tame that beast." He informed her with a smile on his lips. As she told him about his new disease, he pretended to gasp playfully, "Oh my goodness, it's rabies isn't it? I always knew you had them." He pretended to choke before righting himself and laughing at the girl beside him.
As she pet his head, he rolled his eyes slightly, "I wanted to be a hairdresser, you meanie face - no making fun of me, I'd probably fall in the water. And then die, because the water would eat me." He had a long standing fear of water, rain and basically anything wet. There was no reason to it, he just didn't like it, though he didn't really mind when Kylie teased him about it, it was just one of those things that your best friend was aloud to do.
As he walked over to talk to Duray, he heard her speaking back, he smiled back at her words as he shrugged, not exactly sure how to respond to that. As she spoke again he nodded, "Well, hopefully that'll happen." He responded nodded at her. Head turned slightly to look at Kylie, he gave her the famous 'I'm sorry' look, for making her wait for him like that, before turning back to look at the blond girl sitting before him,
"Hey look, I as wondering, if maybe you wanted to go out with me, be my girlfriend?" So maybe it seemed quick, but they were in camp, you had to be quick, after all you only had the summer, so why not make the most of it, you couldn't exactly take things at an amazingly slow pace it just didn't work like that. Eyes traveled to the ground as he watched a leaf gets tucked into a whirl of wind, flying softly until it landed in the lake.
Turning back to Kylie once more he gave her a discreet thumbs up that only she could see, they're old code for 'mission accomplished', yeah it was dumb, but they had invented some pretty wacky games, so it wasn't that big a deal, after all, hadn't most kids pretended to be a soldier at some point at their lives? Pretended a stick was a gun and had almost poked their eye out with it after jumping off a big rock which was supposed to be a helicopter? [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Her scowl softened and she shrugged. A slight roll of her eyes was contradicted by a small smile. ”Welll, I suppose.” she conceeded, shaking her head slightly to herself. If he knew how true that was, would they still be friends? Probably not; talk about awkward. At his next statement she gasped in dignantly, ”You meanie! It is no beast! Its gorgeous. You’re just jealous.” she sniffed derisively and flipped her hair over her shoulder at his face. He promptly gasped and began to choke. ”I don’t have rabies! Its….” she cast around for some other terrible disease, finally blurting out the worst she could think of. Its cancer! The minute she said it, she regretted it. Cancer was a touchy subject with Kylie, she was pretty paranoid about it. Ever since her mother had died almost ten years ago, she had been convinced that she would develop a form of cancer at any moment and be dead in a few months. Maybe it was just a reaction to the trauma. Not that anyone would know, of course. It had been years since her mother’s illness and death, but she had never told a soul; or at least, she had never told anyone at camp. What was the point?
”Oh yes Ollie, the big bad water monster is going to devour you.” she said, nodding solemnly with wide, frightened eyes. Don’t worry, if you do fall in, I have a plan.” she pulled her cell phone from her pocket and flipped it open. ”I’d call the police, and the coast guard, and the navy, and the marines, and the nurse, and some doctors” she continued rattling off a list of various specialists and so forth that she would call in in the event of a water related emergency, the list getting odder and odder as she continued. Finally, she admitted defeat and stuck the phone back in her pocket. ”See, I’ve got it all covered.” A few moments later he was flashing her the ‘I’m so sorry’ look and she was returning it with the predictable ‘its not a problem’ look; the one that-of course-meant she was lying through her teeth. However, generations of males everywhere took that look completely at face value, regardless of how well they knew the female giving it, so it worked like a charm.
What he said next made her want to crawl into a hole and die. Was he seriously asking that fast? From the looks of things, he’d pretty much just met her! Good god, she knew it was summer and all, and so there wasn’t much time, but she’d barely had ten minutes to get used to the idea. This just wasn’t fair, not fair at all.
She managed to get over her immense shock, gathering her wits enough to flash a smile and a thumbs up back at him in their old army-kids tradition. Their old code, she missed those days. Back when Oliver still thought most girls had cooties, and Kylie was too preoccupied with what they would play next to worry about whether or not Oliver would ever like her the way she liked him. Good times, good times. However, she had just been forcefully reminded that those good times were far, far behind them.

Duray shielded her eyes from the sun, which continued to beat down on her relentlessly. She bit her lip, which she tended to do. She didn't have a problem with it either. It was sexy and a lot of boys like it. Maybe it was because it made her look a bit vulnerable. Who knows. Whatever the reason was, it gave her attention which was always good and it brought attention to her mouth which was even better.
She listened as Oliver asked her to be his girlfriend. She also watched as he looked away and down at the ground. Awww, he was so cute when he was unsure of himself. She was going to like this. "Well let's think about this shall we. You are so sute, sexy even, and that's without a doubt. From what I've seen and heard, you're like a totally sweet guy, which I seriously love and need. And did I mention you're hot?" she added laughing. She couldn't help herself.
"So to answer your question, I would love to go out with you and be your girlfriend." She gave him a smile. Hey it was summer. They only had a short time so you just had to get the ball rolling. "So its official now right?" she said for reassurance.
She noticed the little "sign language" communication between Oliver and Kylie. It caused her to look over at where Kylie was standing. She looked a bit irritated and pretty uncomfortable which was an obvious sign that she had heard the question that Oliver had posed towards Duray. It didn't really bother her any. Why should it and why would it? she had never been close to her. The fact that she may like Oliver didn't realy matter. She was now dating Oliver, as of like 3 seconds ago, and nothing was going to stop her from doing that. Not at all, not at all. She turned her attention away from Kylie and focused it on the person who was important in this whole situation, besides her of course, which was Oliver.

I will never let you fall, I'll stand up with you forever
He laughed as she grudgingly agreed with his earlier statement, before cracking up completely at her next words, "Oh yes, I've always wanted amazingly long hair that would fly into peoples mouths." He said, nodding his head seriously as if he meant it, though this action was canceled out a bit as he was still laughing profusely. He listened to her spluttering about to find a word, grinning as he watched her brows scrunch down in concentration.
She finally blurted out a disease, followed by a look he couldn't identify, "uh...huh." He finally responded, deciding to question her about it later, well, if she would even answer his inquiries, she was almost as bad as him about not speaking of the past, maybe that's why they had become friends so fast - they were quite alike. And then her gaze shifted back to him, and she was joking around again, a tentative smile formed on his lips before saying, "It will too, it's evil." Crossing his arms over his chest, as if that made his argument stronger.
She rifled around her pocket, pulling something out which he recognized to be her cellphone, raising a brow he listened as she unfolded her plan. Of course, he had something to say about it, "Yes, but what if I drown before the nurse comes, what then?" Before sticking out his tongue, in a I win gesture. Moving to talk to Duray then, he listened to her words as she answered him,
A grin came over his face as she spoke, not really because of the adjectives used to describe him, but to the fact she said yes. Actual, if he did happen to examine the situation from afar he might have seen that it was the sole reason she wanted to go out with him, because of his looks, but then again, that was partly why he wanted to go out with the girl opposite of him, because she was really pretty. After all, they both hardly knew each other.
As she spoke up again, he nodded before replying, "Yeah, I guess it is, awesome." He stood up then, looking around as he pawed some hair out of his eyes, "Hmm, I need to go, the counselor for our cabin was supposed to come down and make us sing kumbaya or something." He finished with a shrug, turning to Duray he smiled, "I'll call you or something, alright?" Moving closer to kiss her on top of her head before turning away to walk out onto the trail once more, as he passed Kylie his hand shot out, gripping around hers for a reassuring squeeze before disappearing into the forest.

Duray stopped shielding her eyes from the sun as it was finally taking a toll on her arms, which had grown rather tired. She grabbed her sunglasses from the top of her head and moved them back over her eyes. Once they were in position she leaned back slightly resting on the palms of her hands. She watched Kylie and Oliver interact with each other. She watched the body language of Kylie and rolled her eyes. The girl was truly pathetic.
She watched and listened to Oliver as he spoke to Duray herself. "Well then its settled, hon," she said with a smile. She couldn't help but giggle to herself silently as he kissed her on the forehead after saying that he'd get in touch with her later. She could only imagine what that did to Kylie's psych. She was going to like this situation. She was going to be with a hott guy he thought she was hott and who would fill her time while she was here. Plus, she got to mess around with a boy who's best friend was obviously infatuated with him beyond belief. This was going to be so much fun it was ridiculous.
"Yeah I've got to get going to. Got to get back to the cabin for some meeting or something. I can't really remember which one it was." It was true. On top of that she hadn't popped any pain killers since that morning. She was way over due. "I guess I'll see you later." Before he walked off she gave him a kiss, not on the cheek, not on his forehead, but on the lips, something she couldn't resist doing.
She watched as he stood and headed off in a different direction, away from her and Kylie. Duray grabbed her things and put them in her bag before slinging it over her shoulder. She walked past Kylie and with a slick smirk said, "Guess we'll be seeing a lot more of each other huh." She gave a laugh and walked off towards her own cabin.

She grimaced at her own stupidity, wincing as the word echoed in her mind. Cancer. What the heck had she been thinking? Even Oliver picked up on that one, she could see it in his eyes, hear it in his tone. He might ask now, and what would she say? She'd have to tell him the truth, right? Today was just not her best day ever. In fact, she had to say it ranked up there as being one of the worst. Not THE worst, naturally, but definitely in the top ten. What happened next merely pushed it into the top five.
They were going out. It was..official. Okay. Kylie could deal with that. Yeah, she totally could deal with that. Maybe Duray wasn't so bad, right? She seemed nice enough. Maybe it had been a mistaken first impression that lead to Kylie's dislike for the girl. That had to be it, after all, Oliver wouldn't fall for a total bitch, would he? She felt sort of numb, her mind racing in frantic circles while she tried to process the situation. Good lord she was bad at dealing with this, wasn't she? Hopefully no one would notice, how embarrassing would THAT be?
It took them ten seconds flat to start spewing all that couple-y mushy nonsense at each other, about how cute and sweet and blah blah blah the other was. She cringed inside her skin, wanting to turn around and run away really quickly. She couldn't do that though, something wouldn't let her move. So she watched the whole sickeningly awful scene unfold as she tried in vain to convince herself that Duray was really not that bad, and that maybe they would even get along. The more she thought about it, the less possible it seemed.
Then they were parting ways, off to their cabins to do whatever it was they needed to do. A voice in the back of her head told her that she needed to get back too, that her own cabin had a meeting as well, but she couldn't bring herself to move. Oliver squeezed her hand as she walked by, and she took some small comfort in the fact that he wasn't going to completely forget about her, even if he wasn't remembering her as anything more than a friend. She could deal with this; it would get better over time, right? It simply had too.
Her hopes, meager though they were, clattered to the ground, breaking into tiny little pieces as Duray sauntered by with an overbearing smirk. Okay, so that whole 'maybe we can get along' thing was completely and totally NOT going to work out. Not now, and not in a hundred million years. And the worst part was, Duray was right. They WOULD be seeing a lot of each other now. Kylie wasn't all that certain that she could handle that, to be completely honest.
They had gone, seemingly in the blink of an eye, while Kylie leaned against her little tree, wondering what the hell was going to happen now. She picked a rock up off the ground, turning it over in her hand a few times, unseeing. She could feel herself wanting to cry, but she pushed it down and away. What a stupid, silly thing to do, at a time like this. It wasn't as though it was a surprise, or that she didn't know something like this would happen. Then again, she was just a stupid, silly little girl wasn't she? Rolling her eyes at her self-pitying idiocy, she hurled the rock far off, watching it splash in the middle of the lake. Taking a deep breath, she looked around for her flip-flops so that she could head back. When she could only find one after a few minutes of looking, she gave up and sat on the rock, happy to be alone. Who needed camp meetings anyway? Besides, its not like she ever got in trouble, or even spoke that much, they wouldn't miss her.
A few minutes later, her conscious got a hold of her and she renewed her search. Finally finding the flip flop tucked behind a log, she slid them on to her feet and hurried off, hoping she wouldn't be in any trouble.
